Saturday Forest School – Organ Pipes National Park

  •  02/06/2018
     9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Organ Pipes National Park, located off the Calder Fwy in Melbourne’s western suburb of Keilor North. The Organ Pipes, a set of basalt columns formed by the cooling and cracking of molten lava, are the most well-known feature of the park. The area offers a wonderful and diverse location for our forest school with wildlife to spot and a river to explore.

The children will head off, down through the bush tracks and to the spectacular basalt columns and learn how to safely navigate in the bush, how to track animals, learn all about our amazing wildlife, plants, Indigenous history, learn/practice their rope knots, search for water bugs and lastly build boats by the river.

Our forest school aims to inspire creativity, a natural curiosity and enriching sensory play experience while seeking to follow their interests and a instil a love of learning. We also ensure that children learn to use their bodies so that they develop strength, good balance and coordination while learning to take safe risks with guidance and support from the educators.

This workshop is run by Ryan and Adam.

Ryan is a passionate environmental educator, conservationist and outdoor adventure leader. Trained with a Diploma of Outdoor Education, Ryan has 5 years experience as a facilitator of outdoor activities, holds a degree In Sustainability Management, and Environmental Philosophy.

Adam spent his entire childhood in the bush, living off-grid, climbing mountains, playing in rivers, learning to fish, track, make fires and simplify ‘being’ in nature. He now hopes to share his childhood experiences with the next generation to inspire a deep connection to nature. He has a background in Outdoor Education and enjoys camping, rock climbing and meditation.

Forest school is an all weather outdoor program so you need to make sure you bring appropriate weather protection and clothing. Children must have closed footwear when walking in the bush, sun hats, sunscreen, wet weather gear, plenty of snacks and water and a change of clothes. Our program will only be cancelled in the event of an extreme weather warning; fire, storm, high temperatures and strong wind.

Ages: 6-12 years
