Forest School – Woodworking Workshop

  •  02/07/2018
     1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

It’s time to get kids off the screens and into our Forest school workshop these school holidays. They’ll learn life skills and how to use real tools while making friends and building confidence in the outdoors.

This hands-on workshop will teach children how to properly care for and use real tools to create all sorts of woodworking projects to take home.

Children will have access to a variety of natural timbers that vary in shape, textures and length for them to use.

This woodworking forest school workshop is being held in the African village at Ceres Environment Park which is completely outdoors and provides safe and easy access to the Merri Creek and bush surroundings. This is a great opportunity for children to be outdoors, in nature, learning real skills with real tools and making useful things.

Through giving children small achievable tasks to complete, they learn to become more independent while developing self-esteem and confidence. By attending our forest school programs, children learn to assess risk and make sensible and informed decisions about how to deal with unfamiliar and unpredictable situations. The children will work both independently and as a team and take these skills home with them so they can use anytime in the bush.

This workshop is run by Ashlee & Pascale.

Ashlee is a qualified and experienced, early childhood educator who has been working as a wilderness camp leader and as a theatre puppet maker for children for nearly 10 years. Pascale is a qualified Horticulturist and Linguist, who specialises in delivering educational garden programs to primary schools and kindergartens. Pascale has extensive knowledge of plants and local Indigenous history.

Ages: 3 – 12 years
