Bush Kindy Kids 3+ Keilor East – Fridays

  •  05/02/2021 - 26/03/2021
     9:30 am - 11:30 am

Summer is here and you’re invited to join our bush kindy kids program. Located at Brimbank Park, in Melbourne’s north-western Melbourne suburb of Keilor East which is home to native grasslands, grass plains, and majestic river red gums line the Maribyrnong River where we get to explore and enjoy the abundance of birdlife.

Our 8-week Bush Kindy Kids program focuses on providing rich and sensory natural learning experiences that spark your child’s curiosity about the world, themselves and their peers. A gentle rhythm to the session incorporates early literacy, early numeracy, art and craft and introducing bush survival and bushcraft skills such as using tools and building and constructing using ropes and loose parts. The support from the facilitator creates an engaging environment for learning, stimulating creativity and imagination and encouraging physical and social development. Children will have the opportunity to learn how to safely use tools and ropes for building and creating, explore on a nature walk and participate in tactile, hand-on activities where they problem-solve, learn and play.

Our Brimbank Park bush kindy is led by Penny. Penny has been running our bush playgroups at Gresswell Forest for 4 years and has a wealth of local knowledge to share with the families. Penny is qualified level 3 forest school leader.

Our program has been developed to give your child optimum opportunity to build their gross motor and physical skills through climbing, balancing, walking and fine motor skills during our craft activities. Research clearly shows that the more time your child spends in nature, the better they are prepared for school, both physically and emotionally.

It’s also a time for parents to disconnect from their busy lives (and technology) and reconnect with their child in nature. This time is as much for you as it is for your child. Our bush kids program brings together a community of like-minded parents who are supportive and welcoming.

It’s an all weather outdoor program so you need to make sure you bring appropriate weather protection and clothing. Children must have closed footwear when walking in the bush, wet weather gear, plenty of snacks and water and a change of clothes. Our playgroup will only be cancelled in the event of an extreme weather warning; fire, storm, high temperatures and strong wind.

Ages: 3 1/2  – 6 years (siblings under 14 months are welcome to attend for free).

*Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
