Winter Solstice Tin Lantern Making – Mornington

  •  21/06/2018
     4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

An early evening family winter solstice celebration for primary school aged children and families on the Mornington Peninsula. Join us at the Balcombe Estuary in Mount Martha for a lantern making activity and a warm fire to celebrate the winter solstice, marking the longest night and the shortest day of the year.

The children will be guided by their facilitator Alison to make their own winter lanterns using tools (hammers and nails) ready for the night ahead! There will be stories, songs and some hot tea for the parents and spuds for the children to enjoy (bring your favourite filling!)

This intimate workshop and solstice celebration is a chance for both past, present and new families to come together and share a beautiful evening of connection in nature. The children will also go on a bush walk at night with their newly made lanterns!

Our workshop facilitator Alison is a qualified Primary and Secondary School Teacher, who has been running bush playgroups in the Mornington Peninsula for the past 8 months. She has experience working with children with special needs, as well as being involved in helping set up natural play spaces for her local kindergarten and playgroup for many years.
