Come and enjoy us for a morning outdoors in the sunshine for our Bush kids program at Westerfolds park in Templestowe where we will be learning al about our incredible native snakes, their habitats, what they eat, how they behave and most importantly what to do if you ever come across one in the wild.

This workshop will focus on discussing interesting and fascinating facts about snakes, types of snakes we have here in Australia and we’ll even role play how to do first aid if you ever happen to get a snake bite. This is a fun and interactive workshop which includes outdoor connection games, a craft activity where the children create a gigantic rainbow serpent snake, a bush walk and a story. Although we role play what to do if you see and get bitten by snake, this workshop is a not a first aid training workshop.

This workshop is facilitated by Adam. Adam is the founder of Eco Explorers and has been delivering bush programs to families for over five years. He spent his childhood living and camping in the bush; climbing mountains, exploring rivers, learning to fish, track, make fires and survive. Adam now hopes to share his childhood & adult experiences with the next generation to inspire a deep connection with nature. He is a forest school leader and has a background in Outdoor Education.

Our program is based on the leading research from world-renowned and leading Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Angela Hanscom, author of Balanced and Barefoot to give your child optimum opportunity to build their gross motor and physical skills through climbing, balancing, walking and fine motor skills during our craft activities. Research clearly shows that the more time your child spends in nature, the better they are prepared for learning and life skills, both physically and emotionally. As Angela illustrates, “too many of today’s children miss out on the full sensory richness offered beyond the walls of the classroom or home.”

Eco Explorers is an all-weather outdoor program so you need to make sure you bring appropriate weather protection and clothing. Children must have closed footwear when walking in the bush, sun hats, sunscreen, wet weather gear, plenty of snacks and water and a change of clothes. Our program will only be cancelled in the event of an extreme weather warning; fire, storm, high temperatures and strong wind.

Ages: 4 – 10 years (siblings under 14 months are welcome to attend for free).

*Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
