Jawbone Sanctuary – Be a Marine Biologist for a Day!

  •  29/09/2022
     10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a morning at Jawbone Marine Sanctuary as we learn, discover and create magic at the rockpools! Jawbone Marine Sanctuary, named after its shape, is located in Williamstown and protects 30ha of coastal waters and is a great place to explore the shallow reefs and marine creatures that inhabit the rockpools.

Our hands on school holiday workshop gets kids out on the rockpools, experiencing what it is like to be a marine biologist for a day. Perfect for those families passionate about marine animals and conservation and with a low tide, our experienced facilitator will delve deep into all sorts of interesting and fascinating facts, designed for children with a curiosity about the marine environment.

This 2 hour workshop includes: rockpool discovery, activities, games with a focus on sustainability and environmental issues.

Our program has been developed to give your child optimum opportunity to engage in hand son learning with experienced facilitators. Research clearly shows that the more time your child spends in nature, the better they are prepared for school, both physically and emotionally.

Our workshop facilitator Emma is a Marine Biologist who has a wealth of knowledge to share about the local marine life with her groups.

As a protected marine sanctuary, we want to do our bit to help protect the marine life and clean up any plastic we find so we ask you to tread carefully and be gentle on the rock pools, remove nothing and please wear soft shoes on the platforms and reefs. If you see any rubbish then please pick it up or let us know as we always take a bin to collect  and clean the sanctuary. All materials are bought for the craft activities.

Ages: 4 – 10 years

*Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
