Damper Making & Fire 2

  •  03/10/2017
     1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Come and join us for an afternoon of damper making around a warm fire at the wonderful Ceres Environmental Park in Melbourne’s Brunswick East. We’ll be set up in the African village and will be offering children the opportunity to make their very own damper and then cook it over the fire to enjoy for afternoon tea! There will be some bush tea as well for the parents and our mud kitchen and loose parts play for the little ones to enjoy, as well as other nature based activities.  We will also share some stories and some songs around the fire.

If your child loves camping, then this school holiday damper making workshop is for them!

Children will also have the opportunity to learn how to use a flint and light their own fire. Research clearly shows that children benefit from using real tools and taking safe risks which are a normal part of healthy childhood.

This session will be led by Melinda Bito, who has trained in Nature Pedagogy under Claire Warden and has worked in numerous community serves roles supporting vulnerable families and children with disabilities. Melinda also travelled the world extensively and lived in a remote African village in Cameroon, where she learned first hand local Indigenous traditions and crafts.

We hope you can join us for an afternoon nature ‘experience’ like no other.

Ages: 2-12 years
